Dr. Alexander Krieg (“Xander”) is a licensed clinical psychologist from Michigan, currently living in Kobe, Japan. He completed his dual-specialty Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Cultural Psychology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2018. Dr. Xander received his psychology license (6351004125) in 2020. Currently, Dr. Xander works as a professor at a local university in Kobe. When not teaching classes, he works to support his home community in Michigan as well as his local expat community in Kobe offering psychotherapy services.​

Dr. Xander has published over twenty research articles, supervises new psychologists, and has received a number of prestigious awards and recognition for his clinical and scholarly contributions. These include the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship Grant and Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship.

Dr. Xander has worked in community mental health centers, hospitals, university counseling centers, and public schools in the United States (Hawaii, Michigan, and Washington) as well as a private group practice in Japan. He

holds special expertise in anxiety, panic, depression, emotion management,  Asperger’s syndrome, and issues related to interpersonal relationship patterns.

Dr. Xander primarily uses acceptance commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), but will also incorporate techniques and strategies from interpersonal/relational psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt therapy, and Jungian psychoanalysis. He strives to meet clients where they are at and help them move forward in their lives.


Patients have described him as “not overly ‘gushy’ but 100% on your side,” “honest, genuine, and very knowledgeable about what would actually help me,“ and “someone who proved to me that therapy could work.”

 

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

Dr. Xander provides online individual psychotherapy services for adults and older adolescents.

All sessions are 53 minutes in length and are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account.
In general, sessions are scheduled weekly unless clinically contraindicated.
