KOBE INTERNATIONAL COUNSELING

Alexander W. Krieg, Ph.D., L.P.

Dr. Alexander Krieg (“Xander”) is a licensed clinical psychologist. He works with individuals who are looking not only for relief from anxiety, panic, depression, or relationship challenges—but also for a deeper understanding of themselves. Many of his clients come to therapy sensing that their struggles are pointing toward something important: a need for meaning, clarity, or direction in the midst of life’s complexity. Some feel stuck in patterns they can’t explain. Others are navigating transitions, emotional disconnection, or long-standing questions about identity and purpose.

Dr. Xander offers a introspective, relational approach to therapy that helps people understand the deeper story behind what they’re going through. His work is grounded in the belief that our symptoms are not random, but meaningful signs that something in us is asking to be heard. Therapy is not simply about feeling better, but about understanding what really matters and discovering how to live in greater alignment with that.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Xander teaches psychology at a university in Kobe, Japan, where he also supports members of the international and expatriate community. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical and Cultural Psychology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and his work is shaped by both Western psychological traditions and cross-cultural perspectives. He has received national and international recognition for his contributions to research and clinical training, including awards such as the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship and the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship.

Dr. Xander has practiced in a wide range of clinical settings, including hospitals, university counseling centers, schools, and community mental health clinics in both the United States and Japan. His areas of focus include trauma, emotional regulation, anxiety, existential concerns, and relational issues. In therapy, Dr. Xander integrates elements of Jungian psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and relational psychodynamic work. He tailors his approach to each client, creating space for reflection, integration, and change.

If you're searching for therapy that values meaning, depth, and transformation, Dr. Xander offers a space to explore the inner terrain of your life—and to begin moving toward something more whole.
